The secret of ink mixing technology for spot color printing
When encountering spot color proofing and spot color printing, we occasionally ask the technician what theory and method are used to mix the primary color ink. They all say "by experience". The heart always thinks, how can deployment "disrupt the chapter"? There is always a basis. Ink subtraction Ink is based on the three primary colors of pigments, yellow, magenta and cyan. They are all non luminescent bodies. Their characteristics are to absorb (or subtract) one-third of the color light in the white light, and then reflect the other two colors of light. Just like yellow, it absorbs (or subtracts) the violet blue light in the white light and reflects the red and green light. After the synthesis of these two colors of light, yellow is obtained, and magenta absorbs the white light Blue absorbs red light from white light. Therefore, the ink three primary colors are called subtractive primary colors. The nature of ink color depends on hue, saturation and luminosity. Hue is the color light reflected by the ink in the visible light spectrum, all have a certain wavelength, which is the color of ink color or the appearance of a certain ink color. Saturation is the purity of a color. When the purity is the highest, it is completely based on the theory of ink subtraction, absorbing (or subtracting) one-third color light and reflecting three-thirds two-color light. Lightness refers to the amount of light reflected from the ink surface, which directly produces different levels of light and shade, and the hue of ink color is unchanged. The second color is the primary color ink added color. For example, red = Yellow + magenta, green = Yellow + cyan, purple blue = cyan + magenta. When the three primary colors are equal, it is the gray position in the center. For example, when the primary color ink is mixed with another ink, a band of grayscale and brightness reduction has been formed. After measuring the primary ink with a densitometer and drawing the right figure, you can check the hue, saturation and correlation of the ink. That is, yellow and magenta are 1:1; yellow and cyan are 1:1; magenta and cyan are 1:1, respectively, to produce bright red, green and blue purple, and the equal parts of three colors tend to be black. The complementary relationship of various colors can also be seen from the figure, such as yellow and purple blue, magenta and green, cyan and red. When the color of the prepared ink is partial to color, such as green, a small amount of magenta can be added; when the color is purple and blue, add a small amount of yellow; when it is red, add cyan. Technicians can measure and draw the company's existing ink. The more basic inks, such as warm gold red, glossbronzeblue, reflex blue, rhodamine red, plum, green, violet, fluorescein 803c, fluorescein 806c, etc., will be easier to master and deploy spot color inks. When the brightness is adjusted, a proper amount of transparent and black ink can be added. The author is engaged in color separation plate making industry, the above is the concept of color separation. I believe it can be applied to ink color matching. Please let me know about the trial and result.Readers all know that a light box with a color temperature of 5000K should be used to inspect the transmission film or light film. What about the reflection manuscript? It is also under 5000K color temperature for inspection, but in fact, many industries will take 6500k color temperature as the inspection standard. However, the same ink will produce different color effects under different color temperature light sources. If the total color difference is greater than 2.0 delta-e, the difference can be recognized by the naked eye. Because the ink hue is based on the principle of subtractive method, the same amount of three primary inks will be black. That is, the primary colors (primary colors) are mixed with each other to get the secondary colors, or the secondary colors are blended with each other to obtain the tertiary colors, which are much darker than the primary colors. If you use the least amount of ink to mix out the color, the brightness and lightness of the color are better, because the grayscale is reduced, the lightness is higher. Inexperienced technicians, the deployment of spot color ink often overshoot more, especially the deployment of dark special ink. Dark ink is more difficult to deploy light ink. Before mixing, we should analyze the proportion and dosage of the main color ink and auxiliary color ink, and then weigh the ink. First, focus on the main color ink, and then add the auxiliary color ink slowly. If the ratio of the main color ink to the auxiliary color ink is 9:1, and the auxiliary color ink is first diluted to 1.5, then the main color ink will be enlarged to 13.5. That is to change to 13.5:1.5, to get the correct color, and the amount of ink increased by 50%. When mixing a small amount of ink, the printing factory uses two ink knives for mixing. After evenly mixing, the printing plant will twist the ink with paper strips, apply a small amount of oil to the powdered paper strips, and then inspect the color samples from customers under the standard 5000K color temperature light source. When mixing a large amount of spot color ink, the printing factory will use blender and three roller inking machine for mixing and grinding. In addition to accurate ink color, the printability of ink is also important, such as tack, viscosity, emulsification rate, etc. After printing, the remaining spot color ink can still be blended according to the hue of the new manuscript, but the saturation is often gray. Especially, the residual ink retrieved from the ink holder has emulsification or the printability changes. It is better to mix it into black ink or gray ink. The calculation of ink consumption can be based on the following factors: the number of sheets, the coverage area of the image or text, and the thickness of the ink layer, which are all in direct proportion. The structure of the paper, the smoothness of the surface, the volume and specific gravity of the ink itself also affect the ink consumption. As shown in the figure below, after testing by a Dutch ink factory (vansonink), a consumption table of appropriate amount of ink is obtained: for example, full-length black ink is printed on powdered paper, and each pound of ink can print 425000 square inches of paper surface, and the ink concentration is determined to meet the standard by the concentration meter
