The ethanol content in the solvent of water-based gravure ink with acrylic resin as binder is more than 50%. The advantages are that water and ethanol have little pollution to the environment, and the disadvantages are that the drying speed is slow and the color is poor when printing plastic film. The water tension is not easy to diffuse on the plastic film, so adding washing powder to the ink can reduce its tension. However, the plastic gravure printing machine equipment currently used in China is not suitable for using water-based ink to print plastic film.
Water based gravure ink has not been further popularized
On the whole, the important reason why the water-based gravure ink has not been further popularized is that the printing performance and quality of some domestic water-based gravure inks still can not meet the printing standards of solvent-based gravure ink, and most of the flexible packaging enterprises still do not recognize it. The main reason is that the surface tension of water is large, which makes the ink difficult to wet; the water is not easy to volatilize, and the printing speed cannot go up. If we want to achieve the printing speed and quality of gravure solvent based ink, not only the water-based ink itself needs to be improved, but also the gravure equipment and engraving roller also need to be improved. For example, for the laser plate making roller with a depth of 24-28 μ m, the printing plate roller also needs to be made of corrosion-resistant materials, and more powerful and effective ink drying system, as well as ink scraper and other equipment components need to be installed on the printing machine. These improvements require considerable investment and a long time.
Although water-based gravure ink as a solvent ink alternative system, has attracted the attention of many departments and packaging industry, but the oil-based ink in packaging film printing is still in the exploratory stage, so far it has not reached the general use stage.
