Quality control of printing raw materials

Product quality is related to the survival and development of each enterprise. The quality of product is determined by five production factors in the production process: man, machine, material, method and environment, which is often called 4mie rule. Due to the great difference in scale and grade between domestic plastic color printing manufacturers, the emphasis on 4mie rule and the actual implementation strength are also different. Due to the limitation of financial strength, it is feasible for most small and medium-sized plastic color printing factories to control the printing raw materials and reduce the factors of quality accidents from the source. In the process of plastic color printing, the raw materials are mainly film, ink and solvent. The overall quality control principle: according to the customer's specific requirements or the characteristics of the packaging content, after processing to determine the appropriate film and structure; after selecting the material structure, according to the different film to determine the appropriate ink, and matching the corresponding solvent; avoid over packaging or secondary filling.
There are many kinds of films on the market, but the most commonly used printing films are BOPP, NY, pet, PE. As far as printing is concerned, the most important thing is, of course, the surface treatment effect of the film and whether NY film is affected by moisture. When printing, the process requirements for measuring the surface tension of the film on one roll should be formulated. The corona effect is time-dependent. If the corona effect is placed for a long time, the corona effect may decrease too much to meet the printing requirements; it can also avoid the hidden trouble due to careless reversal of film surface printing. PE film is the focus of our attention: corona treatment may be missed from the film roll when blowing film; corona effect is not enough due to excessive or uneven film thickness; corona effect is greatly reduced by adding too much smoothing agent or too large proportion of high smooth granular material. When the corona effect on both sides of 12 ~ 15um PET film is almost the same, it is easy to cause the back sticking fault of printing film roll. Corona requirements of printing film: BOPP, PE ≥ 38 dyne, pet ≥ 50 dyne, NY ≥ 52 dyne. The water absorption of NY film will not have a great impact on the corona effect. Judge whether the NY film absorbs water or not depends on whether the film shrinks or not. If a piece of film is cut and put into the oven for a few hours, whether the handle feels hard. If there are such phenomena as starting and hardening, the NY film will absorb too much water. When purchasing films, we must explain the use and requirements of the films to the suppliers. Now the varieties of films are refined. If we just say the names of pet, NY and BOPP, the suppliers may have several varieties, but not all of them are suitable.
When choosing gravure ink, first of all, we should consider several factors: what substrate to print on? What kind of machine is used for printing? What kind of effect do you want to get? What are the conditions for post printing processing and end products? At present, the competition between ink manufacturers is fierce, and there is a large choice of products, which may also dazzle our color printing factory. To confirm the above points before printing, we can not only select the ink with the best performance price ratio, but also reduce or avoid printing failure. Ink suppliers should not be too many, not more than three, because different brands of ink can not be mixed, resulting in a great waste of ink; perhaps some color printing manufacturers hold the attitude of occupying ink suppliers' funds, but running enterprises should be based on good faith, anyway, it is necessary to pay sooner or later.

There are three kinds of common ink on the market: polyamide type surface printing ink, chlorinated polypropylene type composite ink and polyurethane ink. Different substrates choose the corresponding matching ink. Chlorinated polypropylene composite ink is used for BOPP printing. If it is not necessary to compound, polyamide type surface printing ink is selected. If general polyurethane ink is selected to print BOPP, the cost is high and the adhesion fastness is not up to the requirements. NY, PET film must be printed with polyurethane ink. If it is printed with chlorinated polypropylene ink, it is easy to have low peel strength and high temperature delamination. The adhesion of polyamide ink to PE film is very good, but it can only be used in general dry packaging. When making high temperature, grease and water resistant packaging, such as milk film and bottle label, polyurethane ink should be selected.

Ink has several basic indicators that color printing enterprises should test: viscosity, fineness, hue, adhesion fastness. The required testing tools include scraping bar (comparing color phase, measuring adhesion fastness), 3-gauge (viscosity), and fineness plate (fineness). When testing the viscosity, it is better to dilute the matching mixed solvent to a specific viscosity (such as 18 seconds / 25 ℃), and calculate the amount of solvent added. In this way, the phenomenon of "false viscosity" caused by some inks can be eliminated (the ink looks very thick, but the solvent can not be added). The national standard (GB / T 13217.7-2009) can be selected for the detection of adhesion fastness, but it may not be enough for some surface printing inks. It is better to simulate the specific requirements of product packaging and post-processing conditions for testing.
The quality of solvent has a direct impact on the quality of ink printing, but for general small and medium-sized enterprises, the solvent quality is the most difficult to grasp. The main indexes to distinguish the quality of solvent are purity and moisture content. The best quantitative and qualitative detection of solvent is through chromatography, but the required instruments are expensive and the technical requirements are also high. If the light is for printing, do not consider the dry composite process, here provides a simple and practical method. Look at the appearance of the solvent, at least should be clear, transparent, if there is turbidity, floating debris, the batch of solvents should be used with caution. After smelling the smell of the solvent, the operator has a general impression of the odor of a specific solvent after contacting with the commonly used solvent for a long time. If the odor of the batch of solvent is found to be not pure, it can be sure that the purity of the solvent is not high and there are many impurities.
There are many factors that affect the printing quality. Each color printing enterprise has its own management method for how to better grasp the quality of printed matter. In color printing, it is difficult for us to control the quality of raw materials or raw materials that are not suitable for color printing.
