Experience tells us that the service life and sales price of materials are not all increased by the ratio of 1:1, most of which is that the growth rate of price is lower than that of life extension. Take PS plate as an example, its aluminum plate, photosensitizer, etc. are priced by weight. Taking the PS plate for newspaper industry as an example, the printing press is designed according to the thickness of 0.30mm, and the minimum is 0.28mm. Some domestic PS plates have a nominal thickness of 0.28mm and a large downward tolerance, while imported PS plates have a nominal thickness of 0.30mm, and the downward tolerance is very small. If the thickness of low price PS plate is lower than the tolerance requirement, it will lead to insufficient pressure during printing. The solution is to increase the amount of blanket liner, which leads to the inconsistency of linear speed between plate cylinder and blanket cylinder, thus speeding up plate wear. Although the aluminum material is saved, the sales price is reduced, but the printing resistance is very poor, and in some cases, it can even be twice as bad. As more and more social capital is involved in the production of printing materials, the quality of printing materials has been greatly differentiated, and the differentiation of service life is also prominent. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the comparative relationship between service life and price in order to obtain the lowest material cost. Of course, material procurement should be combined with production needs, and service life should not be blindly pursued. For example, for a product with a small printing capacity, no matter how high the printing resistance of the printing plate is, there is no practical significance; for a printed piece with a large printing volume, the material cost changes caused by the printing plate resistance must be considered.
