What should be paid attention to in the quality evaluation of printed matter, the analysis and evaluation of printed images are often subjective. For example, paper producers like to evaluate printing quality according to the quality of printing materials they like; printing workers are more sensitive to the printing quality parameters they are trying to control; advertising personnel evaluate the quality of printed materials from the perspective of information media communication; the general readers do not have these professional tendencies, but they have certain expectations for the image quality printed in newspapers, travel brochures and textbooks And so on. In view of this objective subjectivity, we must consider this difference when quantifying the printing quality of this subjective evaluation. If we want to improve the quality of printed matter, we must determine the criteria for judging the printing quality. In particular, it is important to know which aspects of print quality are emphasized by each evaluator or each group of judges, or in what order the subjective psychological factors of image damage are weighted by various parameters. Printing quality evaluation technology must also adapt to the evaluation characteristics of people. People's response to physical stimulus is often nonlinear, so is the response to sound, light and pressure. For the complex stimulus of halftone image, people's evaluation is usually nonlinear. People usually have different reaction styles. People's evaluation always has a certain degree of error and randomness. If it is to evaluate the quality of printed matter, the insensitivity of the evaluator to the difference of printing quality or the instability of people's application of evaluation criteria, the more experienced and trained the evaluator, the smaller the evaluation deviation. Any printing quality evaluation method must be able to estimate the evaluation deviation of each evaluator. It must be possible to distinguish this bias from the different response styles described above. The method of expressing printing quality characteristics cannot change the order of printing quality grade of experimental samples or deviate from its quality scale. For example, if a set of printing samples is the same image printed on different paper, there may be several similar prints or several very different prints. The evaluation method itself should be able to maintain this relationship without artificially separating similar samples or making irrelevant samples close to each other.
When evaluating the quality of printed matter, the following five requirements should be met: 1. Different parameters should be distinguished and identified by human vision; 2. The importance of each parameter should be estimated by each evaluator; 3. The response of each evaluator should be converted into a common one; 4. The response deviation of each evaluator should be estimated; 5. The potential relationship between printing quality among experimental samples should be maintained. The traditional method of evaluating the quality of printed matter can not meet the above requirements completely. Each evaluator arranges the order of samples according to the order of quality rising, which only meets the requirements listed in the third item.
